Confronting Pedophilia: Research and Case Study of Chaim Walder

How to recognize the profile of a pedophile, know how to protect yourself, and how far is going too far.

Video Description:

Pedophilia and child sexual abuse are every person’s worst nightmare. This course outlines the research on pedophilia. What does this population look like, how do they abuse, who do they target, and how common is this danger. This course not only covers the research on this topic but presents a case study of a recent high profile case of one of Israel’s most famous accused pedophiles, Chaim Walder. Walder, a children’s educational therapist and children’s author, was seen as the shinning example of a person who was fighting for the welfare and protection of children in his work before these accusations came to light. Walder was accused of abusing over 20 women and found guilty in the Jewish court system. His case was transferred to the secular court system. However, before his court appearance Walder took his own life. Given the unique cultural context, Jewish law will be addressed and its intersection with sexual crimes and how this population has been both stunned and reacted to these allegations.

Given the issues surrounding the case it is important to highlight that Walder was not found guilty in the secular court system and insisted on his innocence. No one is being diagnosed or definitively claimed as guilty. Instead, this story is being used educationally in analyzing a case like this.
