"You cannot control the waves, but you can learn to surf."
Shalom Ringer
Professional Counselor in Training

Shalom Ringer is a graduate student in Bellevue University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and a professional counselor in training at The Place. His years of experience mentoring and guiding individuals in various school and Yeshiva settings throughout America and Israel have shaped his therapeutic approach and his commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space for clients.

A year spent as a madrich (dorm counselor) in his Yeshiva was life-changing for Shalom. During that time, he dedicated himself to listening, guiding, caring for, mentoring, and supporting first and second year Yeshiva students. Through this experience, Shalom discovered that his passion lay in helping others. After reflection and introspection, he realized that the aspects of being a madrich that he most connected with—empathy, presence, and support—were synonymous with the role of a mental health counselor. This realization led him to pursue professional training so he could continue doing what he loves: supporting others on both a personal and clinical level. He believes therapy is most effective when it is a collaborative process, personalized to each person’s unique story and needs, with an emphasis on empathy, curiosity, and helping clients discover their strengths and build resilience.

Having grown up in the United States and now living in Israel, Shalom values the importance of culture, identity, and personal meaning in the healing process and his professional commitment is not only to help others, but to assist them in making significant, long-lasting changes and empowering their lives.
