Ithink I was a born therapist. Well, at least by the time I was ten.
That might be the first time someone shared personal secrets and issues with me. After that it continued to happen quite regularly, sometimes frequently. I think I projected the feeling that you could tell me anything and I would: 1) really understand and 2) guard your confidentiality.
I remember one time I was at a bus stop (I think around age ten) and a woman about twenty years old decided to spill her guts to me. I’d tell you all about it but, you know … client confidentiality (OK I actually don’t know her name or if she’s alive, but still). She wasn’t sure why she was sharing these things, but I know. She needed to get things off her chest and didn’t have anyone else to share with and — there I was.
Thus it continued for many years including one time when I did some emergency marriage counseling for some friends (boy was that a mess). I was about twenty.
So it’s been very exciting to finally have become a real live therapist with an MA and everything. I’ve been practicing for about 15 years now and have picked up a lot of modalities but try to use the best approach possible for each individual. I’ve been called warm and have surprised people when they told me intense outrageous things without me running out of the room. I’m grateful for that ability. I grew up in a wild Hollywood film making background and also got exposed to pretty much all the major cults, etc. out there before I became religious. I credit it to that.
I have an MA in Marriage and Family Counseling and CASAP in addictions. Also certification in Auriculotherapy, Internal Family Systems and Narrative Therapy and have had training in the Fishbane/Scheinkman vulnerability cycle system, Logotherapy, Group Therapy, Imago, Mindfulness, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Self Relations Therapy and 12-Steps approach.
I work with Individuals, Couples and Families and it’s a pleasure.
My approach is to help open up more options to clients and to reveal in their present situation different contexts of understanding.
My wife, Rahel, is also a therapist at The Place and we could work together to help individuals, couples and families.
I was a born therapist. Well, at least by the time I was ten, I was a born therapist.
