Integrating Meta-Therapeutic Processing in the Treatment of Complex Trauma

Mondays February 25th and March 4th

Facilitated by Sanford Landa, LCSW

In this training Meta Therapeutic Processing (MET) which is an essential aspect of Accelerated, Experiential, Dynamic Psychotherapy developed by Diana Fosha will be explored. MET is a process of therapy in which the experience of being in a therapeutic relationship becomes the focus inquiry which allows for a deeper and broader therapeutic experience. The concepts of MET can be adapted into the treatment of trauma because it allows for the moment to moment tracking and exploration of phenomena associated with trauma as well as the examination of phenomenological aspects of affective transformation experiences that takes place in the treatment of trauma. Both of these are effective skills for the effective trauma treatment.

In addition MET also targets repairing relational pathology in providing a corrective emotional experience and explores previous attachment relationships to improve the quality of attachment to reach a felt sense of earned secure and a wider window of tolerance to be able to develop skills of auto-regulation. A wider window of tolerance allows the client to hold, be present, and aware of the intense emotional experience of complex trauma events without becoming dysregulated.

Outline for the training:
  • Understanding windows of tolerance to facilitate and regulate a client’s body based experiencing of emotion
  • Meta Therapeutic processing and moment to moment tracking in therapy
  • Meta Therapeutic processing of undoing aloneness of trauma.
  • Rapidly promoting the development of secure attachment relationship in therapy.
  • Identify the phenomenology of effective transformational experience
  • Target and repair relationship pathology
  • Integrating MET into your own practice skills
