Parenting Without Anger

Facilitated by Sharni Brodesky

From controlling to self-control. Sharni Brodesky is a trained psychotherapist with a passion for parenting.

In this talk, Sharni will address the question of how parents can help their children develop self-control. The answer lies somewhere in the underlying dynamic between parents and children, including areas such as responsibility, blame and parents own expectations. For example, Sharni will take parents through the underlying dynamics that often take place, whereby anger and frustration are triggered when parents are too plugged in to or identified with their child’s behavior as a reflection of their identity and sense of adequacy as a parent.

Sharni will also look at encouraging new ways of seeing children’s mistakes or weaknesses as areas of opportunity for growth and fostering emotional connection between parents and children. Sharni will give strategies and tools to help shift the dynamic from power struggle and disconnection, mistrust and shaming the child, to acceptance, validation and holding a space for your child to grow while you are there alongside them. Sharni aims to inspire parents to create and foster consistency in their connection to their child, even when the parents feel triggered, using simple yet vital techniques.
