It’s Not Just What You Say…

How Non-Verbal Communication can upgrade or ruin your message

Tuesday November 6th, 2018 at 20:30

Facilitated by Rabbi Shlomo Kory

Most people are unaware of how much their non-verbal communication affects their communication.

For example, a participant in my inter-personal communications skill’s seminar said that her children were not listening to her. This was particularly problematic at bed time. When I asked her to demonstrate, she said “Time to get ready for bed everyone, Okay?” And her children would respond with “No”. The problem was with the way she said “okay”. In Western cultures when someone asks a question they raise the pitch of their voice at the end of the sentence. She made it sound as if she were asking a question by raising the pitch of her voice on that word. Consequently, her children heard it as if she was asking them if they would like to get ready for bed. And, of course, this was not the intended message.

In this unique seminar we will discover how facial expressions, gestures, and voice tones can upgrade or ruin our communication. We will also learn how to use non-verbal communication to create better rapport with people we are speaking with.
